Suits for Service Members

Service members are equipped with a full suit.

Suits for Service Members is a 501c3 program coordinated by the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) that assists service members with their transition from military to civilian life. This organization is based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) and provides an array of services and assistance to service members transitioning out of the military. The organization provides suits, dress shirts, ties, belts, and shoes for service members as well as professional advice. Although the name of the organization is “Suits for Service Members,” they also provide dresses, blouses and skirts. Selecting an outfit for the service member’s spouse is encouraged too!

We began our association with Suits for Service Members three years ago when we donated a space for the organization to operate, as well as a steam cleaner to sanitize the donations brought in. Their inventory is stored, and fittings conducted, at the North Fort Branch of America’s Credit Union.

Picking the perfect tie.

The program is a unique way to help service members make a successful transition from military to civilian life. Suits are provided free of charge and are tailored to the individual’s size, as well as their individual needs. They also provide professional advice to service members on a variety of topics, from job search strategies to networking events. By working with organizations such as the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs, and local Chambers of Commerce they also help service members find job opportunities.

All branches of the military qualify, including National Guard and Reserve service members currently on active-duty orders. Participants within six months of transitioning to civilian employment are given two complimentary suits, and may select accessories including shoes, belts, ties, and suspenders.

If you have dress clothes available that you no longer wear, please consider donating them to this wonderful organization. Any ACU branch may accept donations.
