ACU Proudly Supports the Pilot for a Day Program

ACU is proud to be a supporter of the Pilot for a Day Program, organized by the McChord Air Force Association. This initiative provides children facing health challenges with an unforgettable experience, allowing them to step into the shoes of a pilot for a day. The event is comprised of a day full of activities revolving around the child’s dream and interest in aviation. Our most recent participant is Benny, a bright 7-year-old boy who regularly visits Madigan Army Hospital’s Pediatric Cardiology clinic. Benny’s infectious smile and boundless energy light up every room he enters.

Benny’s adventure began on Wednesday night with a pizza dinner at Farrelli’s Pizza in DuPont. Benny and his family met Anna Nicholson, Captain, USAF, who presented him with his very own flight suit, name tag, and flight cap, and very cool backpack, setting the stage for the exciting day ahead. On Thursday, Benny and his family embarked on a series of fun activities on JBLM:

  • 508th Military Police Battalion: Benny explored the working dog kennel, where he got to meet and interact with the amazing K-9 units.
  • Fire Station 105 on McChord: The family received an insider look at the impressive vehicles and equipment used by the fire station.
  • Air Traffic Control Tower: Benny got a behind-the-scenes tour of the tower, learning how air traffic is managed.
  • EOD Demonstration: An exciting Explosive Ordnance Disposal demonstration showcased the skills and bravery of the EOD team.
  • C-17 Simulator: Benny experienced the thrill of flying in a C-17 simulator, giving him a taste of what it’s like to be a pilot.
  • Ice Cream Social: The day concluded with ice cream, where Benny and his family enjoyed sweet treats to finish up his adventure.

We are honored to support the Pilot for a Day Program and to have been a part of Benny’s special day. Programs like this not only bring joy to children and their families but also highlight the strength and resilience of our community.

We can all make a difference, one smile at a time.
