DCUC Hall of Fame
LAS VEGAS, NV – September 9, 2015 – America’s Credit Union’s (ACU) President/CEO, Ken Leonard, was recognized by the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) at their annual conference in Las Vegas, NV. Established in 2000, the DCUC Hall of Honor recognizes a select few individuals whose exceptional contributions over the years have made a significant and most noteworthy difference in the defense credit union community and the DCUC. The coveted award highlights the outstanding accomplishments of credit union leaders, volunteers, management, and staff alike, whose untiring efforts and endless support of the credit union movement epitomize the DCUC’s values and philosophy of serving those who serve our country.
Since starting his career at ACU in 1979, Ken has been deeply committed to serving the local military community on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). Under his direction, the credit union has donated over $1.5 million to support military families. 14 years ago, Ken started an annual holiday troop support golf tournament to raise money for military families during the holiday season. Ken has also generously given space in ACU’s Main building on JBLM to Rally Point 6, an organization that provides veterans and military families a pathway to targeted resources and bridges the military-civilian gap through shared service in our community. Rally Point 6 now has a place on the installation to council transitioning soldiers in finding employment in the civilian workforce. In addition to Rally Point 6, Ken has offered space to the USO Northwest. Once approved by the USO board, there will be a USO location on the Fort Lewis side of JBLM to serve soldiers, retirees, and their families. The space will contain computers to access Skype, a lounge area, and a United Through Reading room where service members are recorded reading a book and the recording is sent to their child to watch during deployment.
For the past three years, Ken has served on the board of the USO Northwest. Additionally, he serves on the board of the Madigan Foundation. Ken was recognized by the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) with a Certificate of Commendation in grateful appreciation for his outstanding dedication, financial support, and encouragement of employee volunteers to support AUSA and JBLM. The credit union is the oldest member of the Captain Meriwether Lewis AUSA Chapter with 35 years of continuous membership. Ken’s participation and generous donations reflect great credit upon the generosity of credit unions in the communities we serve.
